Mathematica License Server as of November 17, 2025
On November 17, 2025 starting 9 a.m., the license server for Mathematica will change.
Going forward, the use of Mathematica will be restricted to those divisions that contribute to the financing of the license costs. IVV Naturwissenschaften is one of these divisions.
All running Mathematica jobs will be terminated during the transition, as announced by CIT. Unless, you have already switched to the new license server.
In order to use Mathematica from November 17, 2025, 9 a.m. onwards, the new license server must be configured. The new license server is already active, so the changeover can take place immediately. To do this, the previous license server (mathematica.uni-muenster.de) must be replaced by the new license server in the “mathpass” file: hiddenlm2.uni-muenster.de.
The “mathpass” file can be found in one of the following locations (based on Where does Wolfram store its license information?):
Linux
-
/usr/share/Wolfram/Licensing/mathpass
-
/usr/local/Wolfram/Wolfram/
/Configuration/Licensing/mathpass
macOS
- /Library/Wolfram/Licensing/mathpass
Windows
- C:\ProgramData\Wolfram\Licensing\mathpass
- C:\Program Files\Wolfram Research\Wolfram\
\Configuration\Licensing\mathpass
An updated version of Mathematica has been made available for Windows in Configuration Manager and can be distributed immediately. Please refer to the Windows News for more information. In this case, manual modification of the “mathpass” is not required.
