Our range of courses is as diverse as the music itself. You will not only learn the craft, but also how to realize your artistic visions. Choose from these exciting courses:

    •     Keyboards & Music Production
    •     Electric Bass
    •     Electric Guitar
    •     Drum Set
    •     Pop-Vocals

The study program - four years to a Bachelor's degree (B. Mus.), one or two years to a Master's degree (M. Mus.) - is the foundation on which you can build your career.

YOU are at the heart of our program! In addition to your main subject, you will be part of a pop combo, develop your artistic personality and learn how to create and reflect creatively. Our "Creative Concepts" make you fit for the music world. You will also broaden your horizons with workshops from scene leaders.

Practice, practice, practice: concerts, studio recordings, interdisciplinary projects - with us you will soon be on stage and gain real experience. We prepare you for the dynamic world of music.

Your main subject and band work in the pop combo are at the heart of the course. Creative Concepts (with the subjects Ear Training, Harmony and Composing) is about expanding your "musicianship" in addition to your main subject. You will get to know many different approaches to music and compositions and acquire reflection skills so that you can find your way independently and professionally through analysis, creative work and a lot of repertoire cross-referencing in the world of pop music with all its sub-genres and trends. Creative Concepts is your "bettermaker".

Your prospects? - Our graduates are ready for anything! Whether as a musician, songwriter, producer or music teacher - with the skills you acquire with us, all doors are open to you.

  • MS POP: The aptitude test

We look forward to receiving your application for MS POP at Münster University of Music!
Our MS POP degree program is called "Music and Mediation".

The first step in the application process is a digital pre-selection - you can find all the necessary information here
You will then be invited to a live presentation, the practical audition. You can find out what is required here

If you have any questions about the exam content or would like a trial lesson, please get in touch with our main subject teachers at any time.

In addition to the practical audition, there is also a music theory exam. We have worked on a new concept for this, which our students present to you in the following video:

We have put together some helpful tips to help you prepare for the aptitude test in music theory.

    (1) Our recommended reading for a general introduction:

    •     Kühn, Clemens: Lexikon Musiklehre. Ein Nachschlage-, Lese- und Arbeitsbuch, Bärenreiter Verlag, 2016
    •     Hempel, Christoph: Neue Allgemeine Musiklehre, Mainz: Schott, 1997
    •     Zettler, Richard: ABC der Musiklehre, Musikverlag Rundel, 1979
    •     www.musikkunde.info

    (2) Our recommendations for practicing the basics:

    • YouTube channel by "Ear Training/Gehörbildung" (triads and quavers, melody dictations)
    • https://www.teoria.com/en/exercises/ (you can put together your own exercises on various areas of ear training)
    • www.eartraining-online.de (Mannheim University of Music; classical dictations etc., but very well structured)
    • Openmusic.academy (enter the term "ear training" in the search mask and have a look around. Not everything is intended for the study preparation phase, but may still be helpful for you ...)
    • Kühn, Clemens: Gehörbildung im Selbststudium. Bärenreiter Verlag 2002 (practical ideas for practicing with the piano/instrument)
    • Sikora, Frank: Die Neue Jazzharmonielehre: Verstehen-Hören-Spielen, Schott Musik, 5th edition 2012 (standard work)
    • Haunschild, Frank: The new harmony theory Vol. I and II
    • Busch, Sigi: Harmonic basics: Jazz & Pop. Textbook with mp3-CD, Advance Music 2015

    (3) Apps:

There is an almost unmanageable number of apps that you can use to train your basic knowledge and skills in music theory and ear training. We are not making a specific recommendation here, but we have found that it is not absolutely necessary to invest (a lot of) money in buying an app. You can also simply try out and use several apps. You can also discuss this with other people in courses (study preparation at music school), workshops or forums!

    (4) Sample exercises - and solutions:

If you feel well prepared, just test how fit you are!
We have prepared sample tasks for you that will give you an idea of how an aptitude test in music theory and aural training might work. And, of course, we also reveal possible solutions in the sample solutions. - We wish you lots of fun and success with your preparation!
