Members of the German Bundestag visit Mathematics Münster

Last week, two members of the German Bundestag visited our Cluster of Excellence Mathematics Münster. Dr. Stefan Nacke (CDU) and Svenja Schulze (SPD) gained insights into the structure and work of the Cluster and learned more about our plans for the second funding period, which will begin on 1 January 2026.

Stefan Nacke and his team visited us on 29 September 2025. In a conversation with Cluster spokesperson Prof. Dr. Thomas Nikolaus and managing director Dr. Anne Schindler, they discussed, among other topics, how Mathematics Münster builds bridges between different mathematical disciplines, the Cluster’s international collaborations, and the concept for the new research building of the Centre for Mathematics Münster. Afterwards, Stefan Nacke met with early-career researchers in the Common Room to talk about how mathematics and politics can work together to create a solid basis for political decision-making.

On 2 October 2025, we welcomed Svenja Schulze (SPD) and her team. A key focus of the discussion with Cluster spokespersons Prof. Dr. Thomas Nikolaus and Prof. Dr. Mario Ohlberger was the international orientation of the research and the Cluster community, along with related initiatives such as the Young African Mathematicians Programme (YAM). Short presentations of research projects highlighted the important role the Cluster’s findings play in fundamental research and in direct applications, particularly in the field of AI. During the informal exchange in the Common Room, early-career researchers from different countries shared their academic journeys and experiences.
