New Postdoc Programme

Mathematics Münster supports young researchers

Postdocs are a vital part of the Mathematics Münster research community. "In order to support the young scientists in their development and to strengthen their independence, we have now established a postdoc programme," says Prof. Dr. Tim de Laat, speaker of the Early Career Committee of the Cluster of Excellence Mathematics Münster.

The core of the programme is the Postdoc Mentoring: mentors chosen from among the professors of the mathematical institutes provide guidance in the postdoc’s academic endeavours during their time in Münster. "Halfway through the contract, the mentor and the postdoc jointly reflect on the academic development with regard to competencies for the respective career goal and further steps," explains Dr. Imke Franzmeier, who coordinates the Cluster's support for early career researchers.

In addition, postdocs benefit from the Cluster's amenities. For example, they receive funding for hosting guests, not only for short collaborations but also for longer stays within the Young Research Fellow Programme. Financial support is also given for conference travel. The Cluster supports postdocs to organise academic events, for example as part of the Young Mathematicians Conference Network, and encourages them to participate in networking and career development opportunities and soft skill workshops.

At the end of their postdoc period at the University of Münster, the researchers are invited to share their experiences with other young researchers at a "Departure Talk" as part of the MM Connect event series.
