Online film event

We have had to postpone many of our planned activities to 2021 because of the corona pandemic. But there will still be a movie event "2020 style"! Thanks to an agreement between Zala Films and the official May 12th initiative, we can watch the new film about the life and work of Iranian mathematician and Fields medalist Maryam Mirzakhani "Secrets of the Surface" from home.

This is how it works: everybody who is interested must register on the May12 webpage. On the registration form, select "individual" and enter "Cluster of Excellence Mathematics Münster" as organizer name. You will receive a personal link for a free streaming. This way we can watch the same film on 12 May - in different places. Have fun! (If you are busy on Tuesday: The link is valid up to 19 May 2020.)

Early career researchers on social media

The University of Münster Social Media Team has asked some of our young female researchers what they find particularly fascinating about mathematics. You can see a picture gallery with their interesting statements here, on Instagram or on Facebook.

About the International Women in Maths Day

The day is a great opportunity for the mathematical community around the world to celebrate women in mathematics and make their achievements more visible. The aim is to inspire people and promote an open, welcoming and inclusive working environment for all.

May 12th is the date of birth of Maryam Mirzakhani, the first and so far only female winner of the Fields Medal. She died from cancer in 2017 at the early age of 40. Her beautiful and astonishing results and her life and career are an inspiration for everyone, women and men, to pursue their dreams in science. Her birthday was chosen to celebrate Women in Mathematics in her memory.
