  • 2. achievements and recognition

2.1 Which achievements do I have to provide?

This depends largely on the respective course of study and the associated study regulations. You can find detailed information on this under the menu item Studies and in your study regulations. Please note that you can only study successfully if you have read your examination regulations and the subject-specific regulations. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Service and Information Center (sic!) and the subject advisors.

2.2 Where can I view my achievements?

The achievements of most Bachelor and Master students are managed via QISPOS. Here you can view your achievements (exceptions: B.Sc. Public Governance across Borders before WS 17/18) and register/deregister for seminars and exams.
At IfPol, the performances of students in the study programs that are not administered via QISPOS, study Political Science extracurricularly or via General/Interdisciplinary Studies are administered electronically in the ELVE system. This means that a seminar's performance is recorded electronically and stored centrally. All students can view their results on the internet here. To do this, you will need your ZIV user ID. This applies to all courses offered at the Institute of Political Science. Recognitions or achievements made at other institutes or abroad are not recorded. If it is not possible to register, please come to the SIC during our opening hours! or contact us at these times, we can help you.

2.3 How quickly are services booked and when can I apply for a service voucher?

How quickly benefits are booked depends on how quickly they are corrected and then forwarded to SIC! As soon as we receive them, they will be booked and from that moment on you can apply for a benefit voucher.

2.4 How and where can I get a certified performance overview/performance certificate?

If required, a printout of the achievements can be obtained from the responsible examination office; this applies in particular to the study programs recorded via QISPOS. Students of the old degree programs (Magister/Lehramt LPO 2003 and earlier) can view their results on the Internet at the following site: ELVE. In the case of ELVE, they can have an official document containing all their achievements created in SIC! e.g. for applications or to complete the basic studies and you are exceptionally not administered in QISPOS. For the international degree programs (FiFA Münster-Lille, BA Public Administration/ Public Governance across Borders), the subject advisors take over these tasks.

For students in the Master of Education with the elective subject Political Science (Educational Science), as soon as all achievements of the combined partial achievement have been booked, the corresponding certificates will be issued in SIC! on request. These must then be submitted to Educational Studies for credit. Students in the Master of Education Social Sciences receive the signature for their module sheet from their* subject advisor.
In the Public Administration / Public Governance Across Borders program, the faculty advisors will work with you to create an individualized transcript of records from the courses recorded in ELVE. Students are requested to attend the office hours for this purpose, since in particular the taking of elective courses should be discussed in person.
should be discussed in person. It is recommended to go to the office hours of the academic advisor at the beginning of the study program if possible and then to update it regularly, e.g. at the end of each semester. If, in individual cases and before graduation, an overview of grades including the achievements is required at the Universiteit Twente (e.g. for Master's applications), this must be communicated one week in advance, as the Dutch grades must be requested.

2.5 Is it possible to improve a grade?

The possibilities to improve a grade differ in the individual study programs and can be found in the examination regulations.

The application to improve a grade must be submitted in writing to the examiner and to the responsible person in the examination office. The decisive factor is that the registration for grade improvement must take place during the regular QISPOS registration phase or during the registration phase for the repeat dates. Following the assessment, the Examination Office will record the performance on the basis of the mock submission. It will also be documented that the grade correction is a grade improvement. Please note that a maximum of two examination performances can be repeated once within the framework of the three available attempts to improve the grade.

According to the current examination regulations for the Bachelor LABG 2009, the improvement attempt must be made in the following semester at the latest (cf. §4 (4) p. 2). Should the students be abroad in the following semester, if applicable, the performance completed abroad can be credited upon application by the students if it is equivalent. If the course in question is only offered on an annual basis, the annual basis also applies to the improvement attempt.

For students in the BA model program, there can generally no longer be any grade improvements, since the PO provides for improvement only within the standard period of study. You can find more information about this on the pages of the 2-subject Bachelor and in your examination regulations.

In the Public Administration and Master European Studies programs, grades in required courses can be improved by taking the make-up exam or by repeating the course. In elective courses, attempts may also be made to improve the grade by retaking the exam or taking an alternative elective course. With regard to free attempts, §18 Free Attempts of the Examination Regulations applies. If you have any specific questions, please contact your subject advisor.
If the grade of a final module examination is to be improved, this is only possible in the module as a whole, since the individual performances are considered as a unit. Therefore, both examinations must be taken again in order to improve the grade.

2.6 How can I have achievements recognized?

The departmental study advisors are responsible for the recognition of course and examination achievements. Please bring a certified overview of the courses to be recognized with you to the office hours. If you have completed your courses at IfPol, this overview can usually be created directly in SIC! In order to determine to which courses at the Institute your achievements are equivalent, it is helpful if you bring along as much detailed information as possible about the content of the course and the scope of your achievements.

To do this, also fill out the Application for Recognition, which must be signed by your faculty advisor Application for Recognition of Services.

You can see how this should be filled out in the example here.

2.7 Who is my contact person for recognition in General Studies?

If you have questions about credits and recognitions in General Studies in the 2-subject Bachelor, you can contact Ms. Susanne Pinkernell-Kreidt. You can find out which courses you can take as part of General Studies in your study regulations.

2.8 Can I be placed in a higher semester?

The placement in a higher semester is done by the student advisor. For this purpose, you must submit to him or her your achievements on the basis of which you wish to be classified. A placement in a higher semester does not automatically mean that you can enroll in such a semester. As a rule, the courses of study at IfPol are also subject to admission restrictions in higher semesters. The actual recognition of the achievements already made will only take place after enrollment. Information on applying to higher semesters can be obtained from the Registrar's Office.

    About the procedure:

Apply to the Registrar's Office for a place in the higher semester. The application period differs from that for the 1st semester. In the winter semester, the application must be submitted from the beginning of August to September 15 and in the summer semester from the beginning of February to March 15. You can find out the deadlines for an application here.
To apply for a higher semester at the Registrar's Office, you must also submit (a copy of) a placement certificate from the Examination Office (the original only in case of admission to enrollment). To do this, complete and sign the Application for Placement (Application for placement in the higher semester for Politics and Law, Politics and Economics, and Economics and Law./ Application for Placement in a Higher Semester for the Remaining Courses of Study). Submit it together with your complete documents to the Examination Office. Since the applications are forwarded to the advisors for processing, this should be done by 31.08. for the winter semester and by 28/29.02. for the summer semester. If the documents are submitted later, it is no longer guaranteed that the placement certificate can be issued in time for the deadline of the Student Secretariat!

Tip: If you are not sure whether you will receive a classification, you should also apply for the first semester (only possible in the winter semester, please note early deadlines!). Alternatively, you can contact the study advisors early on to have the credit/classification checked. Please also note: For a winter semester, students are only classified in odd semesters, for a summer semester only in even semesters.

2.9 Can I bring forward achievements from the Master's program during the Bachelor's program?

In principle, it is not possible to bring forward extracurricular achievements from the Master of Education.

2.10. Can I take extracurricular courses at IfPol?

The suspension of extracurricular activities is currently suspended at IfPol. Therefore, the recommendation to lecturers that no extracurricular examinations should be accepted continues to apply. However, there is the possibility of individual agreement between students and lecturers regarding exceptions to this recommendation.

2.11. What is the deadline for submitting written work?

Since the winter semester 2017/18, it has been the case for the submission of written work, for example in seminars, that the examination offices no longer record work that is reported later than two months after the start of the following semester.
This requirement is, of course, primarily aimed at the lecturers, who are thus to be held to correct the examinations in a reasonable time frame. For you, however, this also means that in the future it will no longer be possible to extend deadlines for homework. Of course, this does not apply to recognized reasons for extending examination deadlines, which you must credibly demonstrate to the examination office (e.g. serious and long-term illness, caring for relatives, etc.). Also excluded from this are internship reports. You can register the internship at any time and also submit the report in a later semester.
