Namenkundliche Informationen / Journal of Onomastics

© NI

The journal Namenkundliche Informationen (NI) is published by the Gesellschaft für Namenforschung (GfN) e.V. and the Faculty of Philology at the University of Leipzig. It represents six decades of tradition in international onomastics research.

The journal is published as an annual volume in print at Leipzig University Press and, since 2023, has appeared simultaneously in an online edition (Gold Open Access). The focus is on all aspects of name research, including especially their interdisciplinary relations. Publication languages are German, English and French.

Incoming articles first undergo an editorial review by the editorial team and are then peer-reviewed by recognized experts in the field. Both the reviewer and the contributor are anonymous (double-blind procedure).

Starting from volume 95/96 (2009), all volumes of NI are available online as searchable PDF documents. The older volumes 15 (1969) to 93/94 (2008) have been digitized retroactively. The resulting PDF documents are image scans that are also searchable.

NoSo: Nordic Journal of Socio-Onomastics

The NoSo journal is a multidisciplinary, international, open access journal for research studying the role of names in society and in social interaction. It has been published since 2021 by the Royal Gustavus Adolphus Academy for Swedish Folk Culture and is indexed in DOAJ. The journal includes articles on all kinds of names, on historical as well as contemporary data, on different methods and on theoretical as well as practical issues. The scope is Nordic, in the sense that the published research aims to be of relevance for Nordic readers (but must not concern Nordic data or be written in Nordic languages).
