Event programme for the 2026/2027 winter semester
The Käte Hamburger Kolleg’s event programme for the 2026/2027 winter semester has been published an can be downloaded here. It includes numerous events exploring the historical and contemporary dimensions of law.
On 26 October 2026, Sarah Albiez-Wieck (Münster), Raquel Gil Montero (Córdoba, AR) and Xosé M. Núñez Seixas (Santiago de Compostela) will present their forthcoming book ‘The Spanish Empire: A Global History (ca. 1478–1975)’.
On 30 October 2026, the workshop ‘How Law Travels’, organised by the legal scholar Dominik Krell (Oxford), will take place. Participants will explore how individuals shape processes of legal change by “carrying” law across legal traditions.
The workshop ‘Marriage and Migration between Europe and the Global South. Spaces, Actors and Power Dynamics in Legal Knowledge Production on Interracial Marriages from 1900 to the present’, organised by historians Joanna Simonow (Heidelberg) and Christoph Lorke (Münster), will take place on 26 November 2026. The event will examine legal knowledge concerning interracial marriages between Europe and the Global South from 1900 to the present day, with a particular focus on the role of experts, state institutions, civil society and the couples themselves.
Legal anthropologist Olaf Zenker (Halle (Saale)) is organising a concept forum on 3 and 4 December 2026 dedicated to his approach of ‘Nomocidal Closure’. This concept develops a general concept for analysing how every normative order co-constitutes its own unity and perspectivised diversity while necessarily leaving aspects of radical plurality illegible. As has been the case with previous conceptual forums, researchers from various disciplines will discuss the benefits and limitations of the concept from their respective perspectives.
Two public events are also planned. On 24 November 2026, Nina Dethloff (Bonn) will give a lecture on ‘Die Vielfalt moderner Familien: Patchwork, Regenbogen und Co. im Fokus des Familienrechts’. The event is being held in cooperation with vhs Münster and the City of Münster’s Office for Gender Equality. The event will be held in German.
On 9 December 2026, Christoph Safferling (Erlangen-Nuremberg) will present his latest book, ‚Ohnmacht des Völkerrechts. Die Rückkehr des Kriegs und der Menschheitsverbrechen‘. This will be followed by a discussion with Nora Markard (Münster) and Ulrich Schneckener (Osnabrück) on the ideas presented in the book. The event is being held in cooperation with Villa ten Hompel, the Evangelischen Forum Münster, Gegen Vergessen – Für Demokratie Regionalarbeitsgruppe Münsterland e.V., the Gesellschaft für Christlich-Jüdische Zusammenarbeit Münster e.V., the LWL-Institut für westfälische Regionalgeschichte and the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e.V. in Westfalen-Lippe. The event will be held in German.
