Meeting of the young scientists from SPP2451

From May 26 to May 28, 2025, a Young Researchers Retreat took place in Münster as part of the DFG Priority Program “Engineered Living Materials with Adaptive Functions” (SPP 2451). The SPP 2451 has been funded since summer 2024 with 14 interdisciplinary projects in which a group from the life sciences always works together with a group from chemistry or materials science. This research network is coordinated by the Leibniz Institute for New Materials in Saarbrücken. During this retreat at Haus Mariengrund, all participating doctoral students from different universities throughout Germany were able to present their projects, exchange ideas with each other, attend a team-building event and listen to lectures by invited professors.
The projects deal with the development of new materials with programmable and adaptable properties by combining living organisms with materials.
The University of Münster is represented by the working groups of Prof. Dr. Seraphine Wegner and Prof. Dr. Bodo Philipp, who also gave a lecture.
Despite the occasional bad weather, it was also possible to visit the University of Münster and the city.
In the end, the doctoral students went home with new ideas and a zest for action.
