“Visual communication – more than words”

Training for doctoral & postdoctoral researchers and clinician scientists

Elisabeth Werner, Köln

Target group: open for interested doctoral and postdoctoral scientists and clinicians within the Inflammation & Imaging community. We especially invite participants of the Inflammation & Imaging Symposium 2026, members of CRC 1450, CRU 342 as well as CareerS and InFlame fellows to participate! This workshop focuses on creating effective scientific visualizations for posters, presentations, and graphical abstracts. Participants will learn design principles and visual communication strategies to improve the clarity, attractiveness, and impact of their illustrations. The course emphasizes how to communicate key scientific messages clearly and appropriately for different audiences through the targeted use of design elements. Specific software tools will not be covered in the workshop; however, participants will be introduced to a selection of free software options that may support the creation of effective scientific visualizations. Registration is free of charge and the number of participants is not limited. Please register here to receive the zoom link! Optional independent work phase: After the first part of the workshop, participants will work independently to create an intro/outro slide or a presentation slide for a one-minute pitch, based on their own topic. This draft will serve as the basis for the subsequent feedback session and should ideally be sent to the tutor in advance. Part 2 will take place on 28 July 2026!
