Uncovering the past with ancient DNA: Regional narratives and global shifts
Ancient DNA (aDNA) has emerged as a powerful tool in archaeological and evolutionary research disciplines. In my talk, I will illustrate how the analysis of aDNA retrieved from human skeletal remains can address a range of questions about population history, human mobility and kinship practices drawing on my archaeogenetic work in the Mediterranean and the Caucasus. I will also explore how such biological evidence, in combination with other molecular approaches such as isotope and proteomics, can inform historical interpretation. Finally, I will discuss new directions in the field as protocols become standardised and costs fall, and as more countries become actively involved in aDNA research.
