50 years of movement science at the Universität Münster

Half a century of Biomechanics and Movement Science at the Institute of Sport Science: this anniversary marks 50 years of research, teaching, and development in the description, analysis, and understanding of human movement.

The origins of this journey date back to 1975/76, when Dr. Baumann was appointed Professor of Biomechanics and Movement Theory. In 1979, Prof. Nicol continued this work through the “Laboratory for Applied Biomechanics,” strengthening the applied orientation of research activities. Since 2006, Prof. Wagner has shaped the field through the Professorship of Movement Science with a focus on Biomechanics and/or Movement Theory. The former laboratory evolved into today’s Movement Science Unit, where numerous researchers and staff members have contributed to a wide range of research areas.
