  • All colour illustrations, graphics, etc. must be printed in colour.

  • The dissertation must be printed on age-resistant, wood- and acid-free paper (see the PhD Regulations).

  • For data protection reasons, the following documents are not included:

    • Curriculum Vitae

    • possibly a decision by the Ethics Committee or approval for research involving animal experimentation

    • Declarations regarding the co-authors' own contributions, in the case of publications in place of a doctoral thesis

Guidelines for submitting your dissertation

  • A copy of the summary must be submitted to the Dean's Office (one page, in German; see above for notes on page 3).
  • When submitting the digital and print versions of the dissertation, the "Form for Supervisors’ Declarations Regarding Publication Following the Award of the Doctorate" ("Vordruck für Erklärungen der Betreuerin/des Betreuers zur Veröffentlichung nach erfolgter Promotion") must be submitted.
    The first signature is provided by each doctoral candidate.
    If significant parts of the dissertation have already been submitted for publication or published (as first or second author), these will receive the second signature on the form.
    The form must be submitted to the Dean's Office together with the ULB confirmation of successful submission.
  • Proof of publication must either be entered on the supervisor's form (in the form of the article’s citation details: title, authors, journal volume (year) issue, page numbers and, where applicable, DOI) or by submitting the original article.

  • The thesis may be printed in A5 format.
  • The thesis may be printed on both sides of the page.
  • Printing in colour or black and white is permitted.
  • Ring-bound or spiral-bound copies are not permitted; please have your dissertation produced with a perfect (glued) binding (softcover or hardcover). Please do not use plastic covers for the binding.
  • All copies must include the dissertation title page with the doctoral degree information.
  • For data protection reasons, we recommend that you do not include a resume in the copies to be submitted.
