New dossier "Sustainability at the WWU"

Climate crisis, change in transportation, CO2 pricing - sustainability is a much-discussed topic that cannot be neglected even during a global pandemic. Various disciplines of university research can make an immense contribution to sustainable development, but teaching, transfer and operation of a university also play an important role in this regard. Since the end of January, the WWU's Communications and Public Relations Office has therefore been dedicating a six-month dossier to this topic, "Sustainability at the WWU", in the first articles of which three ZIN scientists feature.
In her contribution, Prof. Sabine Schlacke discusses the role of universities as central actors in sustainable development. In this context, new possibilities as well as already existing initiatives at various universities throughout Germany are highlighted. In addition, she presents current initiatives at the WWU and points out potentials. Of course, a short presentation of the ZIN is not to be missed.
Prof. Doris Fuchs and sociologist Prof. Dr. Matthias Grundmann have their say in a joint interview. The two of them address a wide range of questions on sustainability and its social significance. Doris Fuchs also contributes to the first part of the video series accompanying the dossier. She answers the question "What does sustainability mean?" and calls on people to consider the ecological and social dimensions of the term in order to be able to act in a forward-looking and environmentally conscious manner.
