The socio-cultural dimension of mobility transformations was the focus of the two-day workshop held at the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS) in Potsdam. In order to approach urgent research questions and central challenges to this broad field, the junior research group invited renowned experts to present their own research interests and to seek exchange with colleagues from different disciplines and six different countries. In several ‘Thin Piece’ rounds, both the participants and the members of the junior research group presented current work and open questions: The spectrum ranged from the challenges of autonomous driving, to spatial concepts and questions, to pictorial ideas of future mobility. The program was complemented by fundamental discussions on the special importance of social science research as a necessary counterpoint to technological development. As a result, it became clear that many of the questions raised require more in-depth study and further conceptual clarification – these and numerous other findings for the members’ research projects will now be processed by DynaMo and documented in a suitable way.
