General Information

In Fürstenberghaus you will find the library of the Department of History as well as the libraries of the Institute of Classical Archaeology and Christian Archaeology/Archaeological Museum and of the Institute of Classical Philology.

A total of over 420,000 volumes are available. For details on the collections and their classifications please refer to the websites of the respective institutes.

In addition to a large number of individual working desks the library offers several group study rooms in the basement and on the upper floor. The two group study rooms in the new section are equipped with Smartboards. They can be reserved via the ULB's Seat Reservation Service.

All floors and rooms of the library are accessible by elevator. A barrier-free lavatory is located in the Fürstenberghaus foyer.

Locating books in our libraries

All library holdings of the University of Münster are listed in KatalogPlus comprising printed and electronic media and also database content such as journal articles. Therefore, your first step is always to determine the location of the desired book in this so-called discovery system.

Please make sure you always take note of the exact location named in KatalogPlus because in the Fürstenberghaus library you will have to head for a "library within the library". Once you have found the respective library and/or section, it will be easy to also find the shelf mark.

The collections of the Fürstenberghaus libraries are set up in a systematic order. This means that books with similar topics can be found in one section but please note that each of our libraries has its own classification system, which can be challenging sometimes (i.e. when shelf marks resemble each other in appearance). Therefore, an overview of all shelf mark groups and their location is available at the Information Desk and on the websites of the individual libraries.

Further information on search tools and strategies is provided by the Central Library.
