Borrowing rules

The Fürstenberghaus libraries are reference libraries. This means that – unlike in most sections of the Central Library – the books are not available for long-term borrowing. However, short-term-loan is possible if you have a ULB account and bring your ULB library card.

Check out, renewals and returns are processed at the Information Desk.

Not available for loan:
◾ Journals
◾ Reference works (encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks)
◾ Sources
◾ Items from course reserves (marked with an orange dot on the spine)
◾ Books from closed stacks (Magazin, Sonderstandort)
◾ Damaged or fragile books

Please note: The following rules do not apply to the library of Christian Archaeology and Classical Archaeology/Archaological Museum.

There are different rules for different user groups, which are defined by their relationship to the University of Münster and/or ULB Münster (students, scientific and non-scientific personnel, guests etc.). The borrowing rules for your user group can be found in the subcategories below. The conditions that apply to your user group will also be displayed next to your search results in KatalogPlus. But only after log-in.

  • Course reserves

Lecturers of in-house institutes can make a course reserve available for their students. Lecturers, or their respective assistants, however, have the following obligations:

    1. Create an MS Excel list of the desired books.
→ You can find a template here

    2. Retrieve the books from their regular location and insert a placeholder for each book taken [Information to be given: Semesterapparat “title of the course”, semester (e.g. SoSe 2025, WiSe 2025/26)].

    3. Present the books at the Information Desk and submit a corrected list via e-mail if necessary (i.e. in case books presented differ from the ones on the original list).

    4. Attach a marking sticker to each book and set up the shelf label and the books.

The Information Desk staff takes care of the booking, retrieves books which are requested but not available in the Fürstenberghaus libraries from other university libraries, and monitors the loan periods.

Course reserves are disbanded only in consultation with the Information Desk staff.

  • Guests

Guest users (i.e. users who are not members of the University of Münster) may only borrow items if they have a ULB library card.
