Organisation

The Institute for Geoinformatics is part of the Geosciences department at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University of Muenster (Germany). Four professors, one junior professor, several research fellows and office staff form the basic personnel of our institute. In addition, many (under-)graduate assistants are working in numerous research and development projects. The staff is composed of computer scientists, mathematicians, and researchers from landscape ecology and geography.

The institute is among the few German university departments that offer a bachelor study program in geoinformatics. Moreover, the institute offers courses in geoinformatics, digital cartography and geostatistics for students of landscape ecology, geography, and geology, as well as other programs.

As an interdisciplinary institute ifgi cooperates with several institutes of the geosciences department as well as with the other departments of the university, for example the European Institute of Molecular Imaging, the University Hospital, the Psychology department and the Department of Communication.
