Note on Enrica Caviglia
The case of Enrica Caviglia differs from numerous others, as all that has been found so far is a piece of paper with notes from a previously unknown hand and not an actual petition. It remains unclear what happened to it and whether the Vatican did anything at all. Enrica Caviglia was born in Rome on 30 November 1915. She was Jewish. She lived in Frascati with her husband Edmondo Di Cave, ran a furniture store and had a daughter, Franca Di Cave. During the war, Enrica and Franca stayed in Rome with the family of Pacifico Spizzichino - Franca's husband Edmondo was the brother of Pacifico's wife. The mother and daughter were arrested there on 16 October 1943 as part of the large-scale deportation of Roman Jews and deported to Auschwitz on 18 October 1943 in the convoy "convogli n. 02, ROMA Collegio Militare 18/10/1943". They were murdered on the day of their arrival, 23 October 1943.
