About the Journal
Aims and Scope
The open-access journal Sociology and Sustainability – Journal for Socio-Ecological Transformation Research (SuN) has been published since July 2015. Its purpose is to consolidate and promote sociological and social science perspectives within sustainability and transformation research. The journal primarily addresses sociologists, social scientists, and sustainability researchers engaged in studying and teaching issues related to socio-ecological transformation.
SuN is published biannually and ensures quality standards through a double-blind peer review process. The journal accepts thematically relevant submissions at any time and regularly issues calls for papers to establish thematic focal points and stimulate debates in sustainability and transformation research. At irregular intervals, SuN also publishes programmatic special issues that contribute to the sociological discourse on sustainability. All articles published in SuN are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) and freely available online.
All articles published in SuN are licensed under Creative Commons and freely available online. Long-term accessibility of the journal’s content is ensured by the University and State Library of Münster. In addition, all contributions are archived in the German National Library, assigned a DOI, and indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals.
Open Access Policy and Creative Commons License
This journal provides open access to its content based on the principle that free public availability of research supports a global exchange of knowledge. All new articles are published under the CC BY 4.0 license, which allows unrestricted sharing provided that the work is properly cited. (All articles published up to and including 2020 were licensed under CC BY NC ND 4.0, permitting sharing for non-commercial purposes only, without modifications and with appropriate attribution.)

Review
Submitted manuscripts undergo a peer review process. Each submission is evaluated in at least two double-blind peer reviews. All incoming manuscripts are carefully examined, and our reviewers do not receive financial compensation for their work. This process takes time — on average, the period between submission and editorial decision is about five months.
Note: The peer review process was introduced with the fourth issue of SuN.
