Gerti Dücker Lecture Series Summer semester 2026
Initiated by the Equal Opportunity Commission of the Faculty of Biology, a new faculty-wide lecture series features outstanding women in science.
This series is dedicated to Prof. Dr. Gerti Dücker, who was in 1970 among the first female professors at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Münster and internationally renowned for being a pioneer in cognitive and behavioral biology. While these talks will be part of the regular institute colloquia, they will be announced faculty-wide and also to the students. After each talk, there will be a possibility for female students and staff members to meet the speaker with snacks and drinks being provided.

Gertrud Dücker, born on February 9, 1928, began her studies in zoology, botany, and chemistry at the University of Münster in 1950. She completed her doctorate in 1956. In 1970, Professor Dücker was appointed professor and director of the newly founded Institute for Behavioral Research at the University of Münster. Her pioneering work on the cognitive abilities and sensory apabilities of vertebrates was far ahead of its time. She taught her subject with enthusiasm and dedication. Supporting young scientists was very close to her heart.
