Internationalisation
One of the primary goals of the Bologna process was to facilitate academic mobility. This is only possible if a corresponding window of study abroad is integrated in all degree programmes. Therefore, we recommend offering programmes comprised of one-semester modules only and arranging learning agreements with foreign universities in advance which stipulate the skills students are expected to acquire during their period of study abroad.
It is absolutely essential that credit recognition requirements are flexible, e.g. awarding credit strictly on the basis of acquired skills rather than identical course content or the number of ECTS points.
- Additional recommendation:
As degree programmes are developed further, programme coordinators should consider whether anchoring a period of study abroad in the curriculum (optional or mandatory) is sensible and appropriate.
