In the following, we provide several examples of endowments which our benefactors have established under the aegis of the Stiftung WWU. Many of these were originally founded for very personal reasons and motivations. You can read their stories below.

“It is very important to me to support and honour excellent achievements in academia. Talented junior researchers need to be promoted and discovered, and that is why I’ve established the ‘Dr. Andreas Dombret Endowment’ under the aegis of the Stiftung WWU. In this way I am strengthening the close bond I’ve maintained with the Economics department since my studies in the 1980s.”

The “Dr. Andreas Dombret Endowment” was founded at the end of 2014, the first to be managed under the aegis of the Stiftung WWU. The purpose of the endowment is to sustainably finance the “Dr Andreas Dombret Dissertation Prize” which has been awarded by the School of Business and Economics at the University of Münster since 2007. The prize is awarded each year to the dissertation which most successfully establishes a connection between theoretical knowledge and practical application in the field of economics. To be considered for the award, the economics dissertation must be accepted by the School of Business and Economics of the University of Münster and granted the distinction “summa cum laude”.
“Establishing the ‘Reinhold and Asta‐Maria Becker Endowment’ was my way to remember my parents. Their love of nature and their close connection to the Münsterland region are embodied in the Botanical Garden at the University of Münster, a place I associate with many wonderful memories.”
Benefactor: Elisabeth Beare in memory of her parents Reinhold and Asta-Maria Becker
The “Reinhold and Asta-Maria Becker Endowment” was established in 2019 to support the Botanical Garden of the University of Münster. The capital of this endowment originally came from the “reparation money” paid to Elisabeth Beare’s grandfather who was persecuted by the Nazis because of his Jewish descent. The purpose of the endowment is to financially reward junior researchers whose scientific work or research projects are dedicated to the study of local flora, and to fund investments in the Botanical Garden which serve to cultivate indigenous plants.
“Studying business administration at the University of Münster proved to be very advantageous to my future career. For this, I am truly grateful. With my endowment, I want to support young academics at the University and give back to my alma mater a little of what I was able to achieve thanks to my studies. As a devoted Münsteraner, I know how important the University and student life is for this city. With my support, I want to ensure that Münster remains one of the top addresses for students in Germany.”
Benefactor: Dipl.-Kfm. Hans-Bernd Wolberg, alumnus of the University of Münster, former chairman of the DZ BANK AG and chairman of the Stiftung WWU board of trustees
The “Hans-Bernd Wolberg Endowment” was founded in 2019 to provide targeted support to young academics at the University of Münster. The promotion of junior researchers plays an important role at the Stiftung WWU. In addition to supporting individual students, the Stiftung WWU also finances projects which generally promote academic talent at the University. In the area of junior researcher promotion, the Stiftung WWU focuses on awarding scholarships and financing.
