A research stay abroad can be a very enriching experience for doctoral researchers - both personally and professionally. However, it also presents a unique set of challenges. Only about 15% of doctoral researchers in Germany spend more than three months abroad (BuWiK 2025). In this session, we would like to discuss the rewards and the obstacles of a research stay abroad, as well as strategies to make the most of it.
