Die Idee der Münster Dialogues geht auf das historische Erbe der „Stadt des Westfälischen Friedens“ zurück – Münster als Symbol für internationale Verständigung und Kooperation. Allein schon durch das 1995 gegründete Haus der Niederlande symbolisiert die Stadt außerdem die enge deutsch-nidederländische Nachbarschaft, in Geschichte, Gegenwart und Zukunft.
Als deutsch-niederländisch-europäisches Forum sollen The Münster Dialogues nicht nur den Gedankenaustausch über die europäische Sicherheit und den Wohlstand dienen, sondern auch die grenzübersteigende Verständigung und Lösungsfindung in Politik und Öffentlichkeit fördern. Das Format bindet Experten aus Thinktanks, Politik, Wirtschaft, Verwaltung, Militär, Medien und Wissenschaft, und es bringt Jugendliche aus beiden Nachbarländern zusammen, unter anderem in Deutsch-Niederländischen Jugendkonsultationen.

The idea behind The Münster Dialogues is rooted in the historical legacy of the “City of the Peace of Westphalia” – Münster as a symbol of international understanding and cooperation. Furthermore, if only through the Haus der Niederlande, established in 1995, the city also represents the close German-Dutch neighborship, in history, present, and future.
As a German-Dutch-European forum, The Münster Dialogues aim not only to foster the exchange of ideas on European security and prosperity, but also to promote cross-border understanding and joint problem-solving in both politics and the public sphere. The format brings together experts from think tanks, politics, business, public administration, the military, media, and academia. It also connects young people from both neighbouring countries, among other formats through German-Dutch Youth Consultations.
Eine erste Publikation zu den Münster Dialogues und die Jugendkonsultationen – mit der Deutsch-Niederländischen Jugendagenda zur zukünftigen europäischen Sicherheitsarchitektur – ist im open access am 30. April 2026 erschienen.

A first publication on The Münster Dialogues and the Youth Consultations – including the German-Dutch Youth Agenda for the Future European Security Architecture – was published in open access on April 30, 2026.
Am 13. Und 14. März 2025 organisierte das ZNS mit kräftiger Unterstützung der niederländischen Botschaft im spektakulärem Berliner Tagungsort AXICA, am Pariserplatz, die erste Folge, TMD#1. Unter dem Titel „European Security between NATO and Strategic Autonomy: Dutch and German Perspectives“ und unmittelbar nach Trumps zweitem Amtsantritt diskutierten rund 50 hochrangige Vertreterinnen und Vertreter aus Thinktanks, Politik, Verwaltung, Medien und Wissenschaft die neue Sicherheitsarchitektur unseres Kontinents und die dafür notwendige politische, wirtschaftliche und militärisch-strategische Basis.
Die zweite Folge, TMD#2, konnte dann am 3. und 4. März 2026 in enger Kooperation mit dem Europa Center der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Auswärtige Politik (DGAP) und erneuter Unterstützung der niederländischen Botschaft durchgeführt werden – freundlicherweise förderte auch REMONDIS Niederlande das Treffen. Unter der Überschrift „Bootstrapping European Security and Economic Strategic Autonomy“ stellten die circa 60 Teilnehmenden aus Thinktanks, Politik, Wirtschaft, Verwaltung, Militär, Medien und Wissenschaft nun insbesondere das wirtschaftliche und finanzpolitische Fundament der neuen Sicherheitsarchitektur auf die Agenda.
Direkt im Anschluss an TMD#2 fanden am 4. und 5. März 2026 in der DGAP, mitten im Berliner Diplomatenviertel, zum ersten Mal Deutsch-Niederländische Jugendkonsultationen statt. Die Veranstaltung wurde vom Auswärtigen Amt unterstütz und in enger Kooperation mit den Botschaften der beiden Nachbarländer organisiert. Zwanzig Studierende vom Duitsland Instituut an der Universität von Amsterdam (DIA), aus der Jungen DGAP und aus dem binationalen Master Europäische Studien der Radboud Universität Nimwegen und des ZNS diskutierten mit Experten und im Workshop-Format über das Europa der Zukunft. Im Abschluss erstellten sie eine gemeinsame „German-Dutch Youth Agenda for the Future European Security Architecture“, die den Experten und Politikern ihrer Länder als Inspiration und Anreiz dienen will und kann.

On March 13 and 14, 2025, the ZNS, with strong support from the Dutch Embassy, organized the first edition, TMD#1, at the spectacular conference venue AXICA Kongress- und Tagungszentrum on Pariser Platz in Berlin. Under the title “European Security between NATO and Strategic Autonomy: Dutch and German Perspectives”, and immediately following Donald Trump’s second inauguration, around 50 high-level representatives from think tanks, politics, public administration, media, and academia discussed the new security architecture of our continent and the political, economic, and military-strategic foundations required for it.
The second edition, TMD#2, took place on March 3 and 4, 2026, in close cooperation with the Europe Center of the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP), again with support from the Dutch Embassy. The meeting was also generously supported by REMONDIS Netherlands. Under the heading “Bootstrapping European Security and Economic Strategic Autonomy”, approximately 60 participants from think tanks, politics, business, public administration, the military, media, and academia focused in particular on the economic and fiscal foundations of the new security architecture.
German-Dutch Youth Consultations & Youth Agenda
Immediately following TMD#2, the first German-Dutch Youth Consultations took place on March 4 and 5, 2026, at the DGAP, located in Berlin’s diplomatic district. The event was supported by the German Federal Foreign Office and organized in close cooperation with the embassies of the two neighboring countries.
Twenty students from the Duitsland Instituut Amsterdam (DIA), the Young DGAP, and the binational Master’s program in European Studies at Radboud University and the ZNS engaged with experts and participated in workshop formats to discuss the future of Europe.
At the conclusion, they jointly developed the “German-Dutch Youth Agenda for the Future European Security Architecture”, intended to serve as inspiration and impetus for experts and policymakers in their respective countries.
