Intensive Courses German as a Foreign Language

Our intensive courses will prepare you optimally with regard to both language and cultural aspects for studying at the University of Münster. In over 20 hours of classes per week you will be taught a comprehensive variety of German language skills.
 

Participation requirements

Only students who have a Sprachkurszulassung from the University of Münster, i.e. who have been officially admitted to our language courses, can attend our courses.

When you apply for a language course, you must prove that you have a command of German of at least level B1 (according to the CEFR: Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) . You can find more information on your application here.

If you do not have a B1 language certificate, then you can take a placement test at the Lehrgebiet DaF. You can find information on the placement test and the test dates here.

 Application

For the preparatory language courses offered by the Lehrgebiet DaF (German as a Foreign Language (DaF) department), you have to apply via the application portal of the University of Münster.

Application deadlines:

  • For the following winter semester: beginning of May to 31 May (every year)
  • For the following summer semester: beginning of November to 30 November (every year)

If your application is successful, you will receive notification to take our placement test (C-Test[BB1] ) for a language course. (January/August)

The placement test serves to confirm your current level of German; starting with B1 level, you will receive a place in a language course at the level confirmed by the placement test..

 Courses on offer

The Lehrgebiet DaF(German as a Foreign Language (DaF) department) offers preparatory intensive language courses (ca. 18 weeks, 18-24 hours per week) at B1, B2 and C1 level.

The courses offer intensive, university-specific language training in the areas of reading comprehension, listening comprehension, text production, academic German and speaking skills. This course content is complemented by modules on intercultural studies, phonetics and integrated language learning counselling.

The courses aim to prepare the participants for the so-called DSH exam (German examination for university admission) and for studying in German.

At C1 level, the courses conclude with the DSH exam. Additionally, students at this level can also take the module DSHplus , which specifically prepares students for studying at the University of Münster.

 Course fees

The language course costs € 500 per semester. Additionally, there are University fees (which include the so-called semester ticket) of ca. € 350 per semester. (Once your course application has been successful, the Student Admissions Office will send you the necessary payment information.)

Course participants who pass the DSH exam (German examination for university admission) and start studying at the University of Münster can have the course fees reimbursed once they have registered for their second semester of study at the University.
