Placement test

The Lehrgebiet Deutsch als Fremdsprache (German as a Foreign Language (DaF) department) offers German courses for international prospective university students. In order to apply for a course, you need to have a minimum of B1 level German (CEFR). You can demonstrate your B1 language competence either through a recognised language certificate (you can find a list of accepted certificates here) or through a placement test, which you take in person at the Lehrgebiet Deutsch als Fremdsprache.

Dates

The placement test takes place every May and November. During these months, you can apply for a language course in the following semester (example: placement test & application in May for a language course starting in August). We offer two dates for the placement test in Münster in both May and November.

Format of the test

The placement test is an onSET test. It consists of eight texts with 160 gaps in which letters are missing. As a placement test, the onSET-Test measures your current level of German.

You can find an example of the placement test here  (You will need to allow pop-up windows!)

You will receive all further information after you have registered for the test! Please note that the test will take place in person!
