German Language Test for University Admission (DSH)

The DSH (German Language Test for University Admission) proves that you have the language skills required to study at a university in Germany.

Eligibility requirements

The following groups are eligible to take the DSH:

  • Participants in intensive preparatory German courses (usually participants in C1-level courses)
  • Approved applicants for a language course who, at the time of application can already demonstrate a language level that would allow them to successfully pass the DSH exam (direkte DSH)
  • EU/EEA citizens who have been admitted to a degree programme but have not yet submitted proof of the DSH (Sonder-DSH EU)

Dates and deadlines

The DSH exam for participants in intensive preparatory German courses and participants in the direkte DSH will take place at the end of the language course.

For studies beginning in the Winter Semester: the end of June / beginning of July

For studies beginning in the Summer Semester: the beginning of January

For EU/EEA citizens who have been admitted to a degree programme but have not yet submitted proof of the DSH (Sonder-DSH EU), the DSH exam will take place at the following times:

For studies beginning in the Winter Semester: mid-September

For studies beginning in the Summer Semester: the end of February / beginning of March
