Contents of the individual courses

  • German funding landscape, project funding and Junior Research Groups – Third-party funding for the postdoc phase and beyond

This seminar gives an overview of the German funding landscape and focuses on funding possibilities for research projects, conferences and junior research groups. You will learn about the funding priorities of the most important funding agencies in Germany and will be introduced to databases that can be used to search for current calls and funding programmes.

    Target group:
The event is aimed primarily at young scientists who are about to complete their doctorate and postdocs.

  • Content, structure and application strategy – Tips for the preparation of research funding proposals in the postdoc phase

Every application for third-party funding contains recurring elements that go beyond the individual requirements of the funding agency. In this event, the parts of the application and the associated key questions will be presented and structured in order to provide you with a roadmap for as many application formats as possible. In addition, we will focus on application strategy and what is important to reviewers and funding agencies.

    Target group:
The event is primarily aimed at scientists who are planning to prepare a research funding proposal or who have already started to do so.

  • 25.9.: Calculation, time and work schedule – Preparation of a project budget and visualizing project structure and workflow

The work programme, including the work and time schedule, forms the core of every third-party funding application. We illustrate what matters when presenting your project clearly and concisely, and how you can employ visualisations to elucidate your approach. Moreover, the work plan serves as the foundation for cost calculation. The more detailed your work plan is, the more precisely you can estimate and compellingly justify the actual resource requirements. Discover what costs can be requested and how to create a persuasive project budget. We offer practical calculation tips and introduce you to concrete tools.

Target group: The event is aimed at researchers who are planning to prepare a research funding application or have already started working on one.

  • Third party funding for international research – networks, cooperation and mobility

What kind of funding opportunities are there for research projects abroad? How can I build up my own research network? These and other topics will be the focus of this seminar.

    Target group:
The event is aimed at (international) doctoral students, postdocs, research group leaders and junior professors who want to go abroad or build up their own research network.

  • Digital publishing and research data management – Strategies for a successful funding application

Digital data are generated in practically all scientific work. Examples include measurement results, photos or digital editions of historical texts. The handling of such data is part of good scientific practice, which is why third-party funding bodies now almost invariably require this aspect to be addressed in project proposals.

The lecture will present aspects that should support the development of such a strategy: What tools exist to capture and manage research data in a structured way? Which storage locations are available? How can data and results be published digitally? What licenses are available for this? What opportunities and financial support are available for publishing Open Access? What support do the University of Münster and ULB offer?

The event will be held by team members of the University and State Library of Münster and the Service Centre for Data Management (SCDM) which is located there.

    Target group:
The event is aimed at all scientists of the University of Münster

  • Legal and fiscal aspects of research funding

What kinds of third-party funding agreements are possible? How do cooperation agreements, R&D agreements, ‘contract research’ agreements and other agreements differ from each other? Which administrative devisions within the university must be involved before the agreement is concluded? What special features apply to commercial projects and how do these projects differ from non-commercial projects? What tax issues need to be considered in this regard? What tax framework conditions apply to sponsorship (brief overview)? During the event, speakers from the legal department and the tax department will present their work and answer your questions.

    Target group:
The event is aimed at all employees who are responsible for project administration and/or initiating third-party funded projects on a contractual basis in their respective departments.

  • Funding approval, third-party funding notification and financing plan

A project has been approved – what happens next? We give you practical advice on the legal basis of third-party funded research, on the notification of a project, on the financing plans which need to be submitted, and general information on managing project funds. The focus of this day will be on specific questions and problems relating to third-party funding management. This event will be held in German.

    Target group:
The event is aimed at all employees who are involved in project administration, management and invoicing at institutes, chairs, etc.
