The coexistence of different religions and the juxtaposition of religious and non-religious traditions pose one of the fundamental challenges for peaceful coexistence in society. The Research College "Religious Plurality and its Regulation in the Region" (RePliR) investigated these challenges with a special focus on the regions of Münsterland and the Ruhr area.

The aim of the Research College was to explore religious plurality and its regulation, to analyze their impact and potential conflictuality with regard to other social areas, and to identify possible solutions. Ten doctoral students tackled this task with their individual projects, supported by supervisors from various scientific disciplines and partners from different social sectors.

The Research College was hosted by the Center for Religious Studies (CERES) at Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) and the Center for Religion and Modernity (CRM) at the University of Münster. The research group was funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The funding was extended from 2021 to 2024. The second project phase, "Regional Regulation of Religious Plurality in Comparison" (RePliV), focused on comparing different religious communities, regions, and countries.
