„GA Discovery Award“ for Justus Mukavi

The Institute of Pharmaceutical Biology and Phytochemistry is proud of Justus Mukavi (Prof. Schmidt research group), who was awarded first prize in the form of the “Discovery Award” for his excellent presentation at the Early Career Researcher Workshop, held during the 73rd International Congress of the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research in Naples (31 August – 3 September 2025)!

The title of the presentation, in which Justus Mukavi presented results from part of his ongoing doctoral project, was: “Antiprotozoal Aminosteroid Alkaloids from Holarrhena pubescens Wall. ex G. Don.” (Authors: Justus Mukavi, Monica Cal, Marcel Kaiser, Pascal Mäser, Njogu M. Kimani, Leonidah Kerubo Omosa, Thomas J. Schmidt).

The plant constituents investigated represent a highly interesting new class of potential active and lead compounds against tropical infectious diseases. Congratulations to Justus and the entire team!
