This year’s summer concert by the Symphony Orchestra of the Münster University of Music will take place on Sunday, June 14, at 6:00 p.m. for the first time in the Main Auditorium of the Münster Theater. The orchestra will be conducted by none other than Golo Berg, General Music Director of the City of Münster. The spectacular centerpiece of the evening is Igor Stravinsky’s Le Sacre du Printemps, performed by a full orchestra.
The program, rich in contrasts, opens with Johannes Brahms’ lively Hungarian Dances Nos. 1, 3, and 5, characterized by striking changes in tempo, spirited passion, and melancholy all at once. This is followed by Franz Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in E-flat major, performed by award-winning soloist Kang Tae Kim from Prof. Arnulf von Arnim’s piano class. After an intermission, the full orchestra will finally take up The Rite of Spring—an iconic work that caused a scandal at its premiere in 1913 and is now considered a milestone of modernism.
The summer concert will be performed by the University of Music’s Symphony Orchestra, with the participation of members of the Münster Student Orchestra. Tickets for this exhilarating evening of music are available for 18 euros at the theater box office.

In 2026, the University Society of Münster is funding a total of 15 projects across all departments in the areas of research, teaching, culture, and student engagement. On March 30, 2026, the symbolic check presentation took place at the castle. The board of the University Society and the university president presented the project leaders and representatives with their checks and warmly congratulated them on receiving the funding. Following this, all grant recipients briefly presented their projects. Four projects from the University of Music are once again receiving generous support this year: the Fürstenau Flute Competition, which is currently in the planning phase; the opera project; the internal university competition; and the Klangzeit__Werkstatt. We extend our heartfelt thanks for this support!

The regional conference of VdM member schools in the Münster administrative district was held once again at the Münster University of Music on March 19, 2026. On this day, the meeting built on the progress made following the September session: The focus was on fleshing out opportunities for cooperation between the music schools and the Münster University of Music. Under the central agenda item “University and Music School – Visions of a Symbiosis” Part II, possibilities and needs were outlined and subsequently discussed. The guiding questions were: “What kinds of collaboration do music schools want from the Münster University of Music, and what ideas for recruiting young talent could potentially be developed and pursued?”
The results speak for themselves: there are very concrete ideas for collaboration that are at various stages of development and will now be taken forward. In September 2027, the results will be evaluated at another regional conference at the Münster University of Music. The University of Music would like to express its gratitude for the exchange and the continued collaboration.

On February 12, a successful conference on violence prevention – status quo and interdisciplinary perspectives – took place under the title “Between Power and Responsibility: Preventing Violence in Higher Education with Special Consideration of Music and Sports Science.” More than 60 students and staff members participated in the event.
