Greeting on the anniversary of the Youth Academy

© Peter Lessmann

Ladies and gentlemen, dear young musicians,

The most beautiful melodies are created when you make music together. That is why we are extremely pleased that the Westphalian School of Music and the Academy of Music are showing how well they harmonize with each other - and have been doing so for ten years now!

Since 2011, dedicated teachers at the Youth Academy have been training exceptional young talents who regularly achieve national and international success - without missing out on their childhood.

Many people deserve our thanks for this success: the primary and secondary schools whose support is so valuable, the sponsors who make it possible for a child's talent alone to determine their education, the music school and conservatory and the parents who give music the space it needs in their children's lives.

Above all, our thanks go to the children and young people who honor us again and again with the gift of their music. Your commitment, diligence and talent create sounds, melodies and music that touch our hearts through our ears.

Congratulations on ten years of the Youth Academy. May many more anniversaries follow!

Warm invitation!

For the 10th anniversary of the Youth Academy, we have put together a rich program of concerts and a symposium on the topic "Parents. Giving Roots - Giving Wings", to which we cordially invite all interested parties:

  • 07.10.2021 Lehrenden-Konzert: „Alien! Frankenstein!!“

    © MHS

On Thursday, October 7, the anniversary celebrations will open at 7:30 p.m. in the concert hall of the University of Music with a concert by the teachers and management team of the Münster Youth Academy.

Admission is free, advance online registration is available.

    "Alien! Frankenstein!!!"

    Program:

    Moritz Eggert (*1965): ,,Alien"

Gudula Rosa plays the solo for recorder (Garklein, Sopranino, Soprano, Renaissance -one player) and Live Electronics

Based on the science fiction classic "A Stranger in a Strange Land", the work "Alien" brings to life a talking alien being. In this highly virtuosic work, the recorder player plays up to three recorders simultaneously on three microphones with different effects (harmonizer, chorus, octaver) and operates the live electronics with 96 actions via foot pedal, with which she controls further effects. Using the means of sound alienation, the player immerses herself in the science fiction world of an alien: the being communicates with the world, the people, the audience.

Heinz Karl Gruber (*1943): "Frankenstein!!!" for chamber ensemble.

Performing: Tor Song Tan (conductor), Peter von Wienhardt (chansonnier), Koh Kameda (violin 1). Friedrun Vollmer (violin II). Burkhard Schmidt (viola), Elisabeth Fürniss (violoncello), Burkhard Heidbrink (double bass), Lisa Bröker (flute) with Tabitha Hakenes (flute, Youth Academy), Werner Raabe (clarinet) with Maximilian Adler (clarinet, Youth Academy), Heidrun Schulze (bassoon), Jonghyun Jo (horn), Lars Motel (trumpet), Malte Höweler (percussion) with Milea Henning (percussion, Youth Academy), Jareem Willmore (piano), Michael Keller (toy piano), Gudula Rosa (other toy instruments)

For the first time in over 20 years, the pan-demon "Frankenstein!!!" by H. K. Gruber will be performed in Münster. The cult piece will be performed jointly by teachers from the Musikhochschule as well as the Westphalian School of Music and Jungakademist*innen under the direction of Tor Son Tang and will not only celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Youth Academy, but also the debut of guest chansonnier and monster expert Prof. Peter von Wienhardt. Gruber set to music the covertly political "Allerleirausch, neue schöne Kinderreime" by H. C. Artmann in a burlesque, grotesque and humoristically exaggerated manner, while remaining musically highly complex. "Demystified demons and evil heroes" (Gruber, 1979) let the orchestra oscillate between traditional and toy instruments to grotesquely exaggerate and unmask the apparent cheerful childishness of the poems.

  • 08.10.2021 Alumni-Konzert: „Weltgewandt und virtuos!“

    © MHS

On Friday, October 8, at 7:30 p.m., we will welcome "alumni" of the Youth Academy who have made and continue to make their way as musicians in the concert hall of the Academy of Music.

Back then "Young and wild! - Today "Worldly and virtuosic!":

The former young students of the Münster Youth Academy now play with the Augsburg Philharmonic and the Münster Symphony Orchestra, played in the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic and the Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra. They were scholarship holders of the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes, the Philharmonic Society Lübeck, the International European Music Academy, the Werner Richard - Dr. Carl Dörken Foundation and the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben. They were sponsorship award winners of the Society for the Promotion of Westphalian Cultural Work, scholarship holders of the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. They won several international competitions and numerous prizes for young musicians. Some of them were also successful in the German Music Competition and were invited to important festivals, such as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Heidelberger Frühling, and the Sommerliche Musiktage Hitzacker.

All of them have made the Jugendakademie Münster blossom through their musical work and numerous "Jung und wild!" concerts. All have made music the center of their lives and are happy to return to their homes for a Youth Academy concert. Look forward to a top-class concert with works by Robert Schumann, Carl Maria von Weber, Francis Poulenc, Tomasz Goliński and many more.

Performing will be Simon Degenkolbe and Julia Puls (clarinet), Charlotte Hahn (marimba), Leon Stüssel (piano), John Henrik Mackenroth (cello), Julius Schepansky, (accordion), Paula Rommel (violone), Max Volbers (recorder) and others.

Admission to the alumni concert is free, advance online registration is available.

  • 09.10.2021 Jugendakademie-Konzert: „Jung und wild!“

    © MHS

On Saturday, October 9 at 7:30 p.m., the Oscar Romero Hall of the Franz Hitze Haus will host the concert of our current young academy students.

    "Young and wild!"

For 10 years, the "Jung und wild!" concerts have been places of exciting encounters with young talents and virtuosically performed music: the instrumental case seems disproportionate, the keyboard seems longer than usual. Only on second glance does the focus shift to the young faces of the musicians. At the Münster Youth Academy, particularly talented children and young people from the region are supported right from the start of their musical education. At the same time, the joint project of the Westphalian School of Music and the Münster University of Music also focuses on the personal and social development of the young musicians.

With the concert "Jung und wild!" (Young and wild!), young academy students between the ages of 10 and 18 introduce themselves and present the results of their work. Works by Telemann, Mozart, Brahms, Chopin and others will be performed. Look forward to Theresia Volbers, Tabitha Hakenes, Cornelius Böhm, Evengelin Mahendrarajah, Ines Rosenfeldt, Roman Tyrra and other young academy members as well as some newcomers and alumni as surprise guests.

Tickets are available at the Akademie Franz Hitze Haus for 12 Euro / 6 Euro reduced. For conference participants, the ticket is included in the registration fee.

Parents. Giving roots - giving wings
Finding talent, promoting it, making it happen

The Münster Youth Academy was founded 10 years ago as a joint institution of the University's School of Music and the Westphalian School of Music of the City of Münster with the aim of promoting particularly gifted musical talents in a familiar social and school environment. This cooperative concept serves as a model throughout Germany.

In this context, the conference will highlight the importance of parents in lectures and workshops with renowned speakers. Parents play a key role in the discovery and promotion of their children's talents. Practicing, balancing intensive musical support with the demands of school, preparing for competitions, finding the right balance in perseverance. These are all topics that occupy almost all parents of especially gifted children.

In addition to music school directors, representatives of early education institutes, teachers and students, all parents of the young academics AND other interested parents are addressed. - We cordially invite you!
