Library of the Münster University of Music

The library of the Münster University of Music is open to all students and instructors of the faculty. Furthermore, its services are available to all other members of the University of Münster (WWU) and anyone else unaffiliated with the University.

With the exception of the reference library, our media is not directly accessible to library users. Ours is a so-called closed-shelf library: the requested media is removed from the stacks by the library staff and sent to the lending desk where it can be picked up by the user.

Holdings

Our library contains over 6,000 books and audio carriers (CDs, LPs, DVDs and videos). The heart of the library, however, comprises an impressive collection of sheet music and music books – some 17,300 items in total. These include instrumental tutorials, études, solo pieces, chamber music and orchestral works. Our reference library holds important lexica, catalogues of works, reference books on music, and a wide variety of magazines.

We currently subscribe to around 30 different periodicals, including Das Orchester, The strad, Üben und musizieren, Sound & Recording and Keys. Users will also find several complete editions, e.g. Die Neue Bach-Ausgabe, Die Neue Mozart Ausgabe and the complete edition of works by Arcangelo Corelli.

Donations to the ULB

Would you like to part with some books or sheet music and donate them to the ULB?
In principle, this is of interest to us as part of our mission to provide information and preserve cultural heritage; however, due to capacity constraints, we can only accept a very limited number of items.
If you have a specific request in this regard, please contact our librarian, Nina Mersch.

Please note the following guidelines:

  • Please refrain from sending us media without prior consultation. It will not be returned.
  • In order to assess whether the media you wish to donate to us fits into our collection and is not already in our possession, we require a list of titles. If you are unable to provide such a list, you may alternatively send us photos of the title pages after consulting with us.
  • The media must be in good condition: they must have been stored in a dry place. We do not accept media that are severely damaged or soiled, or items with water damage, mold, pest infestation, or markings.
  • In addition, we generally do not accept duplicate copies for our collection, outdated reference works, or older editions of academic literature.
  • Media donated to us become the property of the University of Münster Library System.
  • The donation is made free of charge and without conditions, restrictions, or limitations on use, granting the ULB full discretion over the materials.
  • We are generally unable to pick up materials from donors.
  • Donation receipts can only be issued in exceptional cases.
