A distal theory is a NIP-theory that can be viewed as being order-like. First we will discuss some characterizations and related concepts of distality. After that we will take a look at Pierre Simon's type decomposition theorem for NIP, seeing how a NIP-theory can be viewed as a mix of something stable and something ordered. This will be done in the context of a basic example.
