7th WWU symposium on “Research in the chemical industry”

Exchange between Academia and Industry

Improved chemical products and processes are needed in a modern society, for example, for the production of effective pharmaceuticals, healthy food and more environmentally friendly cars. World-leading chemical companies conduct their own applied research, which differs from fundamental research conducted at universities.

Interesting research topics and methods of companies will be the focus of the half-day symposium “Research in the chemical industry (FoChIn)” at the University of Münster. This event will take place in lecture hall C2, Wilhelm-Klemm-Straße 6 on the 17th of May (1-7 pm) and more than 200 participants are expected. Interested guests are welcome although chemical knowledge will be required.

The six speakers are distinct researchers coming from different branches of industry. They will showcase a diversity of modern chemical research: Dr. Martin Ernst (BASF), Dr. Helmut Haning (Bayer AG), Prof. Dr. Andreas Hintennach (Daimler), Dr. Heiko Oertling (Nestlé), Dr. Martin Juhl (H. Lundbeck A/S) and Dr. Sladjana Baljak (Lanxess Deutschland GmbH). Dr. Kai Rossen, Researcher at the Danish pharmacompany Lundbeck and editor-in-chief of the chemistry journal “Organic Process Research & Development” will open the symposium. In addition, researchers of the Department Chemistry & Pharmacy of the WWU and of the Priority Research Programme SPP858 "Synergetic effects in chemistry” will also present posters with their newest research results.

“This event will expand our horizons. It equally addresses students, PhD students and professors and is meant to foster exchange between industry and academia” remarks Prof. Dr. Frank Glorius, main organizer of the event.
