Perfect conditions at the Leonardo Campus Run
University Sports Münster seems to have secured a standing invitation for the annual Leonardo Campus Run: with temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius, sunshine, and an enthusiastic atmosphere. Almost 4,000 runners participated in the 23rd edition on June 25th. Children, beginners, advanced runners, and ambitious athletes could choose between four distances: 750 meters, 2.5 kilometers, 5 kilometers, and 10 kilometers. The relay race over four times 2.5 kilometers was also very popular in its third year. The 59 relay teams' run was the grand finale in the evening.
"The event was very popular with around 4,300 registrations. We are delighted that everything went so well and that the enthusiasm for running is unbroken," said Tim Seulen, co-organizer at University Sports. The venue, which gives the event its name, always adds to its charm. Many athletes stayed on campus after the runs to enjoy the summer evening. ‘For many, the Leonardo Campus Run is not just a sporting highlight, but also an opportunity to catch up with colleagues in a relaxed atmosphere and celebrate the start of summer,’ emphasized Thomas Böckenholt, a runner and member of the University of Münster’s organization team. Almost 400 employees of the University of Münster participated, easily recognizable by their jerseys, which have cult status. The popular collector's items were in anthracite this year.
The 10,000-step competition is now part of the Leonardo Campus Run repertoire. The day before the event is dedicated to this popular sports alternative.
