Münster University is one of the world's 200 best universities

Times Higher Education magazine publishes latest university ranking

The University of Münster is one of the world's 200 best universities according to the current ranking of the magazine "Times Higher Education" (THE). The experts evaluated a total of 1,799 universities in 104 countries around the globe - the University of Münster was ranked 185th and 19th nationally.

The THE ltable is based on 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance across four areas: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. In the areas of research, teaching and citations, which each account for 30 percent of the overall result, Münster University is among the top 25 percent of institutions listed worldwide. Münster demonstrates its research strength in particular by ranking 14th among German universities in the citations indicator.

The top positions are held primarily by British and US universities: The University of Oxford tops the ranking for the seventh consecutive year. Harvard University remains in second place, but the University of Cambridge jumps from joint fifth last year to joint third. The best-placed German university internationally is the Technical University of Munich in 30th place, followed by the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in 33rd place and the University of Heidelberg in 43rd place.
