Video: Great responsibility – the work of the Animal Welfare Officers at Münster University

Video on World Lab Animal Day on April 24 highlights research involving laboratory animals at Münster University

Animal experiments are a controversial issue. In the field of science, they are still sometimes indispensable. In scientific and medical research at the University of Münster, for example, experiments are carried out on animals as model organisms in order to find answers to scientific questions. This makes it all the more important to take special responsibility for the protection of animals and to adopt an appropriate position. At Münster University, this includes having a team of Animal Welfare Officers. One member of the team is Dr. Katja Siegeler. On the occasion of World Animal Lab Day on April 24, she shows her work in a video. As an Animal Welfare Officer she makes sure that regulations, conditions and requirements are all complied with – in the interests of animal welfare. She also advises scientists on setting up animal experiments and on keeping laboratory animals. With a view to animal welfare, the aim is to improve, reduce and – if possible – replace research work.
