Quality improvement funds

Quality improvement funds (QIFs) are a central instrument of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia for safeguarding and improving the quality of university instruction. Since abolishing tuition fees, the state has provided these funds to universities in NRW each year to improve study conditions in a targeted manner.

Distribution of funding

• The University of Münster allocates 80% of these funds to the faculties and central facilities to promote and improve instruction broadly and at a low threshold.
• The remaining 20% is used to finance central measures such as the campus management system, decentralised room renovations, the House of Student Services, the annual call for central QIFs and other special measures.

Supported measures

The QIFs support a wide range of measures – e.g. improving the student-advisor ratio, expanding digital teaching and learning programmes, supporting tutorials and laboratory practical courses and financing service facilities for students.

In this way, the QIFs significantly contribute to the ongoing development of teaching and studies at our university. They enable us to react flexibly to the requirements of students and disciplines in a needs-based manner, thereby strengthening the quality of teaching in the long term.
