Quality Improvement Funds

Quality Improvement Funds (QIFs) are a central instrument of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia for ensuring and advancing the quality of teaching at universities. Since the abolition of tuition fees, the state provides these funds annually to the universities to improve study conditions in a targeted manner.

Distribution of funding

  • As the University of Münster, we allocate 80% of the funds to the faculties and central institutions to promote and improve teaching broadly and at a low threshold.
  • The remaining 20% of the funds are used for central measures such as the campus management system, decentralized room renovations, the House of Student Services, the annual call for central QIFs, or other special measures.

Supported measures

Overall, a wide range of measures are supported with the QIFs – from improving the supervision ratio to expanding digital teaching and learning offerings, as well as supporting tutorials, laboratory practicals, and service facilities for students.

The QIFs thus make a decisive contribution to the continuous development of studies and teaching at our university and enable us to react flexibly and in a needs-based manner to the requirements of students and disciplines, thereby sustainably strengthening the quality of teaching.
