The CRIS.NRW Competence Centre is the administrative office of the CRIS.NRW network.

CRIS.NRW is a joint project established by higher education institutions in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), tasked with implementing the nationwide KDSF standard for research reporting and introducing statewide research information systems. Its overarching goal is to fully support the universities in NRW in digitalising and improving their research reporting. To implement the tasks and objectives of CRIS.NRW, 30 universities in the state of NRW have joined forces. CRIS.NRW is coordinated by the University of Münster and is part of Dept. 6.6. The project was recommended by the Digitale Hochschule NRW and is currently funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia with funding from the Digitalisation Offensive.

Service portfolio

The statewide programme CRIS.NRW was established to offer universities in North Rhine-Westphalia comprehensive services related to core dataset research (KDSF) and research information systems (RIS). This includes:

  • Advice: Our administrative staff offers advisory support in all matters related to the KDSF standard and research information systems.
  • Implementation: Thanks to funding provided by the MKW, CRIS.NRW is able to fully support universities in North Rhine-Westphalia with implementing their RIS projects. Our services are based on a market-proven methodology, while saving time, minimising staffing needs and enabling forward-looking planning.
  • Operation and support: CRIS.NRW’s assistance with implementing RIS solutions extends well beyond technical aspects, for example, by providing infrastructure and software quality assurance. It also includes second-level and specialist support services, e.g. in further developing of business processes and designing report templates.
  • Network management: In addition to assuming the administrative tasks of the NRW university network, the CRIS.NRW Competence Centre consolidates the interests of its members and represents them vis-à-vis RIS providers, report requesters and regional and supraregional committees.
  • Exchange: CRIS.NRW organises statewide meetings where members share their experience on KDSF- and RIS-related topics and cultivate exchange between North Rhine-Westphalia and the national and international community through conference and workshop participation.
