Albert-Weller Award of the GDCh Division of Photochemistry (Chemistry)

In honour of Albert Weller (1922-1996), the Division of Photochemistry of the German Chemical Society (GDCh), together with the German Bunsen Society for Physical Chemistry, award the Albert-Weller Award for an outstanding dissertation in the field of photochemistry/spectroscopy. The award is intended for young academics up to a maximum of two years after their doctorate. Since 2022, the Verein für Geschichte und Altertumskunde Westfalens, Abteilung Münster e.V. has been awarding the Alfred Hartlieb von Wallthor Prize. The prize honours academic works and projects on topics in regional history which may also originate from the neighbouring disciplines of archaeology, art history, folklore studies, geography or architecture or which have an interdisciplinary approach and address “space” as an interdisciplinary research category. This project may focus on Westphalia or neighbouring German regions or regions that transcend political borders. Master’s and doctoral theses as well as book manuscripts from any of the disciplines mentioned above may be submitted. Collaborative works or works by project teams are also eligible. Nominees may be suggested irrespective of their age and place of residence. The paper may also have resulted from professional duties. The doctoral thesis must have been formally approved by the nominee’s thesis committee between 1 January of the year of the previous Symposium on Mathematical Programming and 1 January of the year of the upcoming Symposium. The thesis may concern any aspect of mathematical optimisation. The Competence Center for Applied Security Technology (CAST e.V.) and the Security – Protection and Reliability Division of the German Informatics Society (GI) award a prize for outstanding achievement in the field of IT security. The dissertation must address a topic within the scope of the Security Division or its subdivisions. Eligible works represent an advancement in IT security or enable improved security in IT applications. Applicants should have completed their doctoral degree or be nearing completion. Every year, the Körber Stiftung presents the German Thesis Award to the best doctoral graduates from all disciplines. In addition to academic excellence, the Award primarily focuses on the broader social relevance of the doctoral thesis. As such, the award encourages young academics to point out the value of their research to society and to discuss their work in public. The award is open to all doctoral graduates who have completed their studies with a magna cum laude or summa cum laude distinction. In each of the three subject groups (social sciences, natural sciences and engineering, and humanities and cultural studies) one first prize and two second prizes are awarded every year.
