ADUC Prize (Chemistry)
General information
As part of the Conference for Chemistry Lecturers, the Association of German University Professors of Chemistry (ADUC) awards the ADUC Prize to up to three young scientists (postdoctoral qualification, junior professorship, scholarship or tenure track) who are striving for permanent employment in the German scientific landscape for establishing an independent research area in chemistry. Nominations and self-nominations should be made no later than eight years after the completion of the doctorate and before taking up a permanent professorship. The establishment of the independent research area must be demonstrated by publications in relevant scientific journals. The prize is awarded to early career researchers who have initiated and run a project which has produced outstanding research results, possibly by having adopted unconventional approaches. The criteria for the prize are excellent scientific achievements, demonstrated flexibility and originality, and postdoctoral or junior professor status (candidates must not be professors or holders of a Heisenberg fellowship). Since 2022, the Verein für Geschichte und Altertumskunde Westfalens, Abteilung Münster e.V. has been awarding the Alfred Hartlieb von Wallthor Prize. The prize honours academic works and projects on topics in regional history which may also originate from the neighbouring disciplines of archaeology, art history, folklore studies, geography or architecture or which have an interdisciplinary approach and address “space” as an interdisciplinary research category. This project may focus on Westphalia or neighbouring German regions or regions that transcend political borders. Master’s and doctoral theses as well as book manuscripts from any of the disciplines mentioned above may be submitted. Collaborative works or works by project teams are also eligible. Nominees may be suggested irrespective of their age and place of residence. The paper may also have resulted from professional duties. The Bettina Haupt Foundation promotes research on the history of chemistry by awarding the prize to outstanding work by young scientists from German-speaking countries. The Foundation is administered in trust by the German Chemical Society (GDCh). The Prize honours published and unpublished works on topics on the history of chemistry. The German working group for Analytical Spectroscopy (DAAS) of the German Chemical Society (GDCh) Division of Analytical Chemistry awards the prize to recognise outstanding spectroscopic achievements by mature young scientists from universities, research institutes or industry. Outstanding work (publications, patents, etc.) from all areas of analytical spectroscopy are taken into account, but especially from innovative subject areas such as spectroscopy in the nano range, on biomolecules or spatially resolved spectroscopy. The Prize of the Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (DECHEMA) is awarded in recognition of outstanding scientific achievements in DECHEMA’s sphere of interest (industrial chemistry, process engineering, biotechnology and chemical engineering), which are of fundamental importance and serve as an impetus for innovative developments. Preference is given to the work of younger, early career scientists who, for instance, do not yet hold a permanent professorship or a comparable position in a research institution or industry. The Working Group on Accelerator Physics (AKBP) of the German Physical Society (DPG), in collaboration with the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY), the GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung, the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie (HZB), as well as the Pfeiffer Vacuum GmbH and the RI Research Instruments GmbH, offer a research award for outstanding young scientists in the field of accelerator physics and technology. The purpose of the research award is to promote accelerator physics as an independent field of research in Germany.
