Organized by the Cluster of Excellence “Religion and Politics” and the Center for Digital Humanities at the University of Münster, the lecture series “Introduction to the Digital Humanities” provides an insight into the work of the Digital Humanities and social sciences. Scholars from the University of Münster and external speakers will look at various methods of the Digital Humanities and at how research data are dealt with in a responsible manner. The public lectures will be held from 12 April to 21 June from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in lecture hall JO 101 and digitally via Zoom. Students can also develop practical skills as part of the Digital Humanities certificate.

Besides more general reflections on the tools used by the Digital Humanities, the lectures will also address more detailed questions such as automatic text recognition for historical manuscripts, the differences between editing in digital space and classical editing in book form, and the evaluation and visualization of complex data structures. The series is organized by the historian Dr. Felicity Jensz, the Egyptologist Prof. Dr. Angelika Lohwasser, and the church historian Dr. Sascha Hinkel, all from the Cluster of Excellence. The three are also members of the Center for Digital Humanities at the University of Münster, a cross-departmental network whose aim it is to identify, bring together, and strengthen the interests and skills associated with the Digital Humanities at the University of Münster.
