Publication: Boris Hoge – Schreiben über Russland. Die Konstruktion von Raum, Geschichte und kultureller Identität in deutschen Erzähltexten seit 1989 (Writings on Russia: The construction of Space, History and Cultural Identity in German Literature after 1989).

We are pleased to announce the latest publication by a member of the Graduate School 'Practices of Literature, Dr. Boris Hoge, entitled "Schreiben über Russland. Die Konstruktion von Raum, Geschichte und kultureller Identität in deutschen Erzähltexten seit 1989".

“German novels and travel writings after 1989 frequently refer to Russia and its people. This study focuses on contemporary forms of writing about Russia. The mere ‘image of another country’ is a prerequisite to analyse literature’s contribution to a wider discourse of Russia. Moreover, a single text may reassess its own enunciations of constructions, functions, conditions, motives and mechanisms over again. The meta-constructive potential of literary texts is enormous, it may at times surface explicitly or implicitly, in accordance of opposition of possible intentionalities. This focus on meta-constructive textures lead to the conclusion that no matter, how narrow-minded and trivial some static re-inscriptions of images of self and other may be, literature’s mediality may prove essential to facilitate their dissolution.”
