Students have a basic understanding of the structures of a music school. They are familiar with different teaching formats and specific orientations of the institution(s) experienced during the work placement. They are able to compare and reflect on the opportunities, challenges and possibilities of different orientations of music school work.

Students register

2.) according to the information in the course catalog at the gerneral teaching methodology lecturer

Students can describe the organizational framework and pedagogical guidelines of the workplace visited. They analyze mediation formats of different target groups and orientations according to selected didactic-methodological observation focal points. They classify these initial didactic-methodological observations with regard to individual artistic-pedagogical objectives and critically reflect on relevant skills and qualifications in the field of music education.

Large group teaching:
Observation and teaching practice

Students register by February 1st:

1.) in the online course catalog (Self Service) and
2.) according to the information in the course catalog at the cooperating music school.

Students have initial knowledge of the methodological and didactic design of teaching practice with different large groups. They are able to compare these with regard to the specific opportunities and challenges of the respective large group teaching format and to reflect on them in exchange with the respective actors at the institution with regard to their methodological and didactic design.

Of which:
4 x 45 minutes observation and implementation of 4 teaching sequences of 10-15 minutes each
11 x 45 minutes freely selectable work shadowing/additional teaching/reflection activities as required

During the summer or winter semester in consultation with the internship supervisor at the cooperating music school

There are no internships during the NRW school holidays.

Students register by December 1st:

1.) in the online course catalog (Self Service) and
2.) according to the information in the course catalog at the cooperating music school.

- Written elaboration of a teaching sequence (coursework)

Students are able to plan and carry out a teaching sequence with a large group, taking into account methodological and didactic specifics, and to evaluate it based on criteria.

Of which:
4 x 45 minutes implementation of a teaching unit (whole lesson) in at least two different levels, target groups and/or offers
14 x 45 minutes freely selectable work shadowing/additional teaching/reflection activities as required

Individual lessons, chamber music, small group lessons:
Work shadowing and teaching practice in two different teaching programs

- Written elaboration of a teaching unit = grade 1

- Implementation of a teaching unit (whole lesson) and reflection = grade 2

Students have in-depth, practical knowledge of the methodological and didactic design of teaching practice in individual, chamber music, group or ensemble lessons with different target groups and formats. They will be able to design, conduct and evaluate a lesson in the respective teaching format, taking methodological and didactic specifics into account.

4 x 45 minutes implementation of a teaching unit (whole lesson) in at least two different levels, target groups and/or offers
14 x 45 minutes freely selectable work shadowing/additional teaching/reflection activity as required

Work shadowing and teaching practice in two different teaching programs

Three examinations must be taken (3 grades are awarded):

- Written elaboration of a teaching unit = grade 1

- Implementation of a teaching unit (whole lesson) and reflection = grade 2

- Internship report = grade 3

The examinations should take place at the usual place of instruction.

Mentor, gerneral teaching methodology lecturer
The internship report will be assessed within 8 weeks of submission.

Students have extensive knowledge of the methodological and didactic design of teaching practice in individual, chamber music, group or ensemble lessons for different target groups and formats. They are able to design, conduct and evaluate lessons for different target groups and formats, taking into account methodological and didactic specifics. They can reflect on their own pedagogical development by identifying and evaluating their personal learning gains. From this, they can derive consequences for the future design of their own work in the field of music education, which result from the experience gained in various practical phases over several years.
