Münster Peace Research Prize - the project
The DFG-funded project "Münster Peace Research Prize" focuses on the topic of peace research and peace-building in Münster: The topic of peace building has been closely connected with Münster for many centuries. On 24 October 1648, the signing of the Westphalian Peace Treaties in Münster marked the end of the Thirty Years' War after five years of negotiations between the participating European powers. The negotiations are regarded as important milestones on the way to a European peace order and the development of today's international law. To this day, Münster, as the City of Peace of Westphalia, is inseparably linked to this event. The preservation and continuation of this outstanding historical heritage has for many decades been one of the city's political goals as well as the scientific objectives of the University of Münster. In particular (but not exclusively) at our Cluster of Excellence Religion & Politics, the conditions of conflict-free coexistence of religions are being researched on an interdisciplinary basis.
We would like to make this unique coming together of our peace building heritage, unprecedented in the history of Europe, and excellency in peace research in Münster more visible internationally and recruit outstanding young researchers in the field of peace and conflict research through attractive funding opportunities. All activities are carried out together with the City of Münster.
