School

We continuously transform the research conducted at the Department of Medieval and Modern Church History into didactic formats intended for schools and political education. In doing so, we not only focus on the results, but also on the research process itself, in order to make science and church historical research more understandable.

Due to its unique source material consisting of numerous petitions sent to the Vatican by persecuted Jews, the 'Asking the Pope for Help' project, in particular, offers enormous potential for biographical learning and remembrance work, not only for religious education but also for other school subjects. In view of the decreasing number of contemporary witnesses, documents that provide authentic insights into the personal life stories and distressing situations of persecuted individuals are becoming ever more important.

Based on Vatican sources, we have created teaching material and produced a series of short films as well as a contribution to the podcast 'historycast' produced published by the Association of History Teachers in Germany.

Moreover, plays and workshops based on selected life stories have already been successfully trialed with pupils. In individual cases and if there is a suitable group size, it is also possible to implement the 'Meet a scientist' format, in which Prof. Wolf or a member of his staff personally answer questions posed by the pupils. Please send your enquiries regarding this and workshops for teachers to:
