We will discuss some recent works on analysis and design of efficient algorithms for electronic structure models. The mathematical understanding of locality principle of electronic structure plays an essential role in both. We will present a convex optimization approach for finding localized representation of eigenspaces (joint with Rongjie Lai and Stan Osher) and analysis of the divide-and-conquer method for electronic structure (joint with Jingrun Chen).
