The flag variety of a semi-simple Lie group G is a compact G-manifold which appears frequently in representation theory. Principal series representations are described in terms of bundles over these spaces. The intertwining operators between these representations are given by differential or pseudodifferential operators related along canonical fibrations of these manifolds. I will discuss the analysis of such operators and their relation to equivariant index theory, following Kasparov.
